ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSION IN MOTORSPORT

Sustainability in motorsport goes far beyond environmental protection. It also means creating accessible, inclusive, and positive experiences for everyone involved – from fans and teams to local communities.

The Central European Rally is committed to making motorsport open and welcoming for all. Together with the FIA Disability and Accessibility Commission, we are working to improve accessibility at our fan zones, event venues, and communication platforms. This includes barrier-free spectator areas, clear information access, and a respectful, inclusive event atmosphere.

“Sustainability in motorsport goes beyond environmental measures – it also means creating accessible, inclusive and positive experiences for fans, teams and local communities. The Central European Rally is taking this responsibility seriously, and I am glad to support their approach.”
— Nathalie McGloin, President of the FIA Disability and Accessibility Commission

Nathalie McGloin’s support underlines the importance of inclusion and diversity as part of sustainability in motorsport. The Central European Rally proudly follows this vision, ensuring that environmental and social responsibility go hand in hand.

SUSTAINABILITY AT
CENTRAL EUROPEAN RALLY

At the Central European Rally (CER), we are deeply committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting social responsibility. Our Environmental Policy forms the backbone of our sustainability strategy, guiding all aspects of event planning and execution. Below, we outline the key areas of focus in our sustainability efforts.

Spectators

We are dedicated to providing spectators with sustainable options while minimizing the event’s environmental impact:

    •    Bus shuttle services: Shuttle services are available at some stages to transport spectators between parking spaces and Fan Zones, reducing on-site traffic and minimizing carbon emissions.

    •    Sustainable crockery and cutlery: Compostable crockery and cutlery are used at food stands to avoid single-use plastics.

    •    Paperless information: Spectator information is provided digitally to reduce paper waste and the event’s environmental footprint.

Participants

Our participants play a key role in reducing emissions and fostering sustainability in motorsport:

    •    Use of non-fossil fuels: All WRC cars run on a combination of e-fuels and biofuels made from organic waste, ensuring that fuel used during the rally does not compete with food production.

    •    ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup: As the world’s first electric one-make rally cup, this series promotes sustainability through the use of standard electric motors and batteries, reducing costs while emphasizing eco-friendliness.

    •    Vehicle washing zones: Special zones ensure that water and chemicals used for washing rally cars are properly disposed of, minimizing environmental harm.

Organization

Our event organizers prioritize sustainability in every aspect of planning and management:

    •    Minimizing travel: We conduct most of our organizational meetings online to reduce the emissions associated with travel.

    •    Paperless documentation and accounting: To minimize paper usage, we have transitioned to digital solutions for planning, documentation, and accounting processes.

Waste & Resources

We have implemented a comprehensive waste management system and resource conservation practices:

    •    Uniform waste management concept: Proper waste segregation is ensured in car parks and spectator zones, with the use of paper bags instead of plastic. Participants, employees, and guests are encouraged to follow environmentally friendly waste disposal practices.

    •    Reuse of materials: Wherever possible, materials used during the rally are reused to conserve resources and minimize waste.

    •    Upcycled document bags: All participant document bags are made from upcycled materials, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

Regional & Social Value

Social responsibility and local community support are central to our sustainability efforts:

    •    Inclusion and support for underrepresented groups: We provide free tickets to institutions for people with special needs and ensure that they have access to dedicated, accessible spectator areas.

    •    Sustainable trophies: Honorary prizes and trophies are crafted in workshops for people with disabilities, promoting both sustainability and social responsibility.

    •    Collaboration with regional organizations and partners: CER works closely with local partners, service providers, and associations to strengthen the regional economy and promote sustainable practices, ensuring that the event benefits the local community as much as possible.
